Referees Training Program

Referees Clinic and Testing conducted by Mr. Isaac Norman, Technical Committee Chairman and FIBA Commissioner, on 14th and 15th May 2015. This was attended by 26 Officials.

A Referees clinic Conducted by Mr. Sharad Bhansode (FIBA Refreee) and Mr. Abraham Pulose, with technical Rules and floor movements, on 14th to 16th August 2015. This clinic was attended by 7 officials.

 

Coaches Training Program

Francisco Javier Garcia Alvarez of Spain, who is the Coach of the Indian National Women’s Team was ably assisted by Thomas Andrew Heffelfinger of the United States of America, who is the National strength-and-conditioning coach, conducted a week long training session for Coaches and Players.

The program was conducted at the following venues

At Panjim, North Goa, from March 6th to 9th, 2014
At Margao, South Goa, on March 10th and 11th, 2014

 

Players Basic Skill Development Program

The GBA Project of reaching out to many schools that do have Basketball Facilities already, or in the nearby locality. A systematic program is yet to be developed. This will be for the promotion of the game and to increase interest among the schools and grassroots.

 

PULL-UP Project

Indian Students of the Basicball Academy and GEMS Academy in Mumbai, formed the unique novel idea called ‘PULL-UP’ Project, where they would go to the rural schools of India and teach them the skills and discipline of Basketball interacting with the children. This first ever venue chosen was Goa, and they contacted GBA, through Fr. Ralin (President). The Coordinators, Mr. Hermes and Mrs. Vanessa, worked out the logistics for a week long stay in Goa, where they young dynamic group would get exposure to interact with rural kids.

The Schools identified were Holy Rosary (Nuvem), Holy Cross (Bastora) and Lourdes convent (Saligao). In the evenings there was a special camp conducted at DBO (Panjim). The response has been overwhelming and the guests were all to amazed with the response they received.

 

 

ELEVATE Academy Initiative

Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim tied up with ELEVATE Basketball Academy, Mumbai in an attempt to develop the coaches and the training Program in Goa. The Academy was to depute 2 Mumbai coaches every 2 months and 2 Foreign Coaches every 3 months, thus having a regular follow up of the training conducted to the Children as well as, by the coaches.

The Program was conducted for one year, June 2014-2015. The initiative is looking into the possibility of getting two outstations coaches to be based on site so that the level of the training can be raised a little higher.

 

BASICBALL Academy Initiative

Coach DEJAN Kamenjasevic, Head Coach and GM of Basicball Academy Dubai, visit Goa and conducted a 3 day workshop for Players, along with interested coaches. The workshop was a big success, considering that it was the first time, a registration fee was charged, and an uniform dress code was followed.

The fed back from Coach Dejan, the Players and the parents was positive. There is a possibility of working towards establishing a centre for Excellence in Basketball Training in Goa along with Basicball Academy, and this will be able to raise the standards of Basketball Coaching as well as, Basketball Coaches and Players.

The study is underway.
