Goa Basketball has long history dating back to 1978, with three individuals being instrumental in setting its roots firm: Fr. Benedict Furtado (Founder President and Principal of Don Bosco High School), Shri. Dr. Jagdish Surlekar (Founder Member and Principal of People’s High School, Panjim) and Fr. Castellino (Founder Member and Principal of Loyola High School, Margao).
Through its chequered past, the present managing body was elected on 9th September 2021 for a term of four years. The following are its elected members:

The Association has 131 Individual registered Members, 17 clubs/Institutions registered since 1981, 35 Schools/Institutions registered since May 2015 and 16 Clubs/Teams registered since August 2015.
Memberships are open to all Clubs/Institutions/Corporate etc. who wish to promote the game of Basketball.
The Registration process needs to be done by filling the following prescribed forms:
- Club Affiliation Form
- Team Registration Form
- Player Registration Form
Completion of the first two entitle a Certificate from GBA. The completion of the third entitles each player for a Player Registration ID Card. It is mandatory for every player participating in any tournament recognised by GBA, to produce the Player ID Cards at the official’s desk. Transfer of players from one team to another need to follow proper protocol.
The Goa Basketball Association is recognised by FIBA and Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
In the State it is duly registered at the Registrar of Societies, District North, and affiliated to Sports Authority of Goa and Goa Olympic Association.
