13 NEW Coaches for GOA
The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) along with Goa Basketball Association (GBA) has organised its first ‘Introduction to Coaching Certification Course’ with 23 Coaches participating in a week long Intensive course, 13 of whom are from Goa. The other coaches were from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. In an effort to build up the grassroots development of Basketball, and a dearth of Basketball Coaches in the State, GBA organised this workshop which is the first attempt in the country under the new Coaching Certification Program.
For the last 4 years FIBA has organised Level 1-2-3 Coaching Certificate courses which are now updated and coordinated by World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC). All coaches who would need an International qualification would now have to participate under the WABC programs which will begin from June 2017. To attempt a level 01 course one would now have to attempt this ‘Introduction course by BFI’. The whole course was conducted by Coach Sebastian PJ, the present India Coach. ‘I’m really impressed with the dynamism of all the coaches in Goa, and there is a lot of hope here’, he said.
