Goa starts 67th Basketball Nationals on a High Note
For the first time in decades the Goa Junior State Team gave a surprise performance on the first day of the 67th Junior National Basketball Championship in Pondicherry that began today (1st to 8th May 2016) with a double success. Early in the day, the Girls team thrashed Jarkhand 52-21, to ascertain the first victory of the day.
The boys match against Karnataka in the evening was thrilling upset, where Roy Pereira (29 pts) and Shawn Aranjo (28 pts) stunned the higher rated Karnataka opponents, stealing the much deserved victory for Goa 72-66. Brandon Gabriel was awesome in rebound and rebound collection. Ray Cortez, Preston Coelho, Daniel Vaz, and Stefan D’Souza played their parts amazingly well to keep the mighty Karnataka from over powering them.
The Goa squad in participating headed by Olencio Dias (Boys Coach) and Ashley Do Rosario (Girls Coach). The 67th Basketball Nationals are held in Pondicherry from 1st to 8th May 2016.
